Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

A woman with short blonde hair wearing an orange sleeveless top and beige pants, sitting on a beige bench, writing in a notebook. There is a large green plant on her left, a wooden panel on the wall behind her, and a partial view of a design on the wall to her right. Sunlight is casting shadows through a window.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based approach that helps people develop greater psychological flexibility, the ability to respond to life's challenges with openness, awareness, and intention rather than becoming stuck in unhelpful patterns. Instead of trying to eliminate difficult thoughts or emotions, ACT teaches you how to change your relationship with them so they no longer control your life.

How ACT Can Help

Many people find themselves caught in cycles of anxiety, self-criticism, avoidance, or overthinking. ACT helps you step back from these patterns, develop mindfulness skills, and focus your energy on living a life guided by your values rather than your fears.

ACT is commonly used to treat:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Trauma

  • Chronic stress

  • Obsessive thinking

  • Life transitions

What to Expect

In ACT, you'll learn practical skills to become more present, respond more effectively to difficult emotions, and identify what matters most to you. Together, we'll work toward creating a life that feels meaningful, not because it's free of discomfort, but because you're no longer limited by it.
